Jose to face former club in Emirates FA Cup final

Sunday 22 April 2018 19:23

Jose Mourinho's former club Chelsea will be Manchester United's opponents in the 2018 Emirates FA Cup final on Saturday 19 May, after beating Southampton 2-0 in Sunday's semi-final.

Second-half goals from former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata were enough to see off Mark Hughes's Saints for the second time in eight days - Antonio Conte's Blues also won the previous weekend's Premier League clash, after coming back from 0-2 down to win 3-2.
The Wembley showdown between Chelsea and United will be the clubs' third meeting of the season of course, after one home win apiece in the league, and is a repeat of the final in 2007 when Mourinho won the FA Cup for the only time in his career so far. On that day, he was the Blues' boss and the Portuguese was victorious after Didier Drogba scored in extra-time to defeat Sir Alex Ferguson's Reds 1-0.
Drogba's extra-time goal won the 2007 FA Cup final for Mourinho's Chelsea
In total, the Blues and the Reds have played each other 14 times in the FA Cup, including the 1994 final when United completed the Double for the first time with a resounding 4-0 triumph at Wembley.
Eric Cantona scored two penalties as United beat Chelsea 4-0 in the 1994 FA Cup final
The men from Old Trafford have won eight matches to Chelsea's four with two draws leading to replays. The last of those victories came in the 1999 quarter-final at the second time of asking - after the initial fixture in Manchester ended 0-0, Dwight Yorke scored twice at Stamford Bridge without reply.
