Eriksen firmly focused on Fulham

Christian Eriksen may soon be in World Cup action for Denmark but the midfielder's only thoughts at the moment are on Manchester United gaining three points at Fulham.

Sunday's 16:30 GMT kick-off is the final Premier League fixture before an extended break, in order to accommodate the finals in Qatar, and the fact the squads have started being released has obviously gained a lot of attention in the media and among supporters.

Eriksen, as expected, was in his nation's squad as the playmaker looks set to be a key figure in Group D, with the Danes' opening match against Tunisia on Tuesday 22 November.

The tournament itself is set to get under way a week today (Sunday 20 November), when the hosts meet Ecuador.

Christian Eriksen explains how he's becoming used to being on the same wavelength as our forwards...

However, the primary focus for every United fan is on victory at Craven Cottage, in order to sign off in style. The setback at Aston Villa last weekend was followed with an exciting 4-2 success against the Midlanders in the Carabao Cup, and there was real conviction in Eriksen's answers about the task in hand.

"[It's] very, very big," he told club media. "Take away the last game at Villa, we were so disappointed and, on Thursday, to be back on track, it was good to get the win to go through and now, to finish off before the World Cup, we want to finish off as high as possible, and that’s with a win.

“One hundred per cent, I think everyone will be [fully focused]. I think everyone wants to finish well and finish in good shape before the World Cup but also, as a club, it’s where we want to start when we come back from the World Cup. We want to be in the best position possible and that’s with three points at Fulham. I’m looking forward to the game.”

Eriksen was praised after the Carabao Cup win for his influence as a substitute, with Erik ten Hag and Marcus Rashford both discussing his precise passing. The 30-year-old feels he is starting to really get to know his team-mates' runs and enjoys supplying the service for them.

"I try to do what I can on the pitch and the game suited me well," he admitted. "It was opened up, they were trying to go on the attack and we were trying to attack. The game opened up so it was perfect for me.

"But it’s not only me who came on. The subs and any of the players who started still had a lot of chances to finish the game earlier but then I think, in the end, with the energy and extra chances we took, it was enough. Of course for me as a new player, I’m starting to get to know everyone and starting to learn about everyone, how they play, how they run, and that makes it easier.”

The former Tottenham and Brentford man will hope to start in the capital and ensure the United faithful head into the lengthy pause celebrating a win on the road.
