Confirmed: United team to face Tranmere
Manchester United's line-up against Tranmere Rovers in the Emirates FA Cup shows six changes from the side which faced Burnley on Wednesday night.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's alterations for the fourth-round tie at Prenton Park begin with Sergio Romero returning in goal. In defence, Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw are selected as the wing-backs, while Victor Lindelof - back after missing the midweek defeat through illness - joins captain Harry Maguire and Phil Jones in the centre.
In midfield, Jesse Lingard starts for the first time since the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg loss to Manchester City on 7 January and will play alongside Nemanja Matic and Andreas Pereira.
As for the forwards, Mason Greenwood is in the XI after coming off the bench in the last two games against Liverpool and Burnley in the Premier League. The youngster is paired with Anthony Martial, who makes his 200th appearance for the Reds.
On the bench, Ole has named Lee Grant as the back-up keeper, fit-again Eric Bailly and the rested Brandon Williams as defenders, while Fred and Juan Mata provide midfield cover. Tahith Chong and Daniel James have been included as the more attacking options.
Speaking to MUTV before the match, Ole said: "Some of the lads of course need some minutes. Some have the energy we want them to give us today and some needed some rest. So that’s the decision we made. We’ve got two games coming up next week so I think it’s about using the squad.
"The mindset’s got to be right. You can’t come off with any excuses because there are none. It’s the same for both teams. Of course, we’re used to Old Trafford and better pitches but that’s the challenge they’ve got to come through and I’m sure that everyone’s ready to do their best on that pitch."
