Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has vowed to help ensure the Reds will, step by step, compete for the big trophies.

The brilliant no.7 marked his second debut with the opening two goals in the 4-1 victory over Newcastle United and took time out afterwards to speak to MUTV's Stewart Gardner at a still-noisy Old Trafford. The interview is available to watch in full in our Official App.

He was adamant that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men are on a path to challenging for the Premier League and Champions League, with the European competition getting under way on Tuesday with our next fixture, against Young Boys.

The club's strength in depth was highlighted by the impact of substitutes Donny van de Beek, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard, who bagged the fourth goal, and Ronaldo believes this will be of great benefit as the campaign wears on.

"As I told you before, we have huge potential," he told club media. "We have fantastic players, a good coach, a good team. We need to build up the mentality to win the Premier League and even the Champions League.

"So I am here to help the team. I think we have the 11 that are playing and those on the bench that can help as well. We have a good team, as I told you, and the spirit is there."

In his interview with MUTV, Ronaldo also discussed the fact that the fans joined in with his trademark celebration and supplied a message to the supporters who showered him with affection throughout a memorable afternoon at the Theatre of Dreams.

As well, he explained why he gave a speech to his team-mates on the eve of his second debut as the Reds can now look forward to the trip to Switzerland next week.
