Blind: There's more to come from United

Daley Blind insists "there's more to come" from Manchester United, following Sunday's Community Shield triumph over champions Leicester City.

he Reds were 2-1 winners in the curtain-raiser at Wembley, with goals from Jesse Lingard and new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic earning Jose Mourinho a first trophy as United manager.

Blind says the players are raring to go ahead of the new Premier League campaign, and delivered an encouraging message to fans after the game.

"I'm always optimistic, it's an exciting time!" the Dutchman told reporters. "I'm feeling confident, we have a great squad and there's more to come from us. We worked hard and it's great to win a trophy. This was a very important game for us - it was hard last year to reach the [FA Cup] final and win the cup, so it's an honour if you can play this game. We wanted to win the prize again and we did it.

"If you look over the course of last season, Leicester worked very hard to be the champions of England, and we worked very hard to be able to win the FA Cup. Both teams are standing together and you can win another prize [in the Community Shield], so we're happy. We take this seriously; we know it's pre-season but it's a prize that you can win, and one you want to win.

"I think a club as big as Manchester United has to always play for titles, and every title [competition] we're in, we want to win."

While it was Zlatan's match-winning header that made the headlines, Eric Bailly's contribution alongside Blind at the heart of the United defence also caught the eye, earning him the Man of the Match award.&

Blind –& who regularly partnered Bailly at centre-back during pre-season –& was full of praise for the new arrival, and says the pair already have an understanding.

"We talk a lot, obviously more with the hands because I don't speak French, but a little bit of English," he added. "We understand each other, and that's a good thing. Zlatan is also& a great guy. He works very hard and shows that he really wants to win – he's a great person."
