Daniel James's impressive first appearance in English football's biggest fixture earned the Wales winger the Man of the Match accolade from Manchester United fans.

Forty-seven per cent of supporters using our Official App voted him the star performer against Liverpool, although striker Marcus Rashford - the team-mate he set up for the game's opening goal - ran him close with 42 per cent.

Scott McTominay's powerhouse display in midfield also earned him a nomination from MUTV pundit Danny Webber and he picked up the remaining 11 per cent of the votes.

McTominay joined James and Rashford in being nominated for our Man of the Match poll.
Paired with Rashford in one of the fastest front duos Old Trafford has surely ever seen, James showed no ill effects from his recent international exertions and regularly presented a threat to the visitors with his electric pace. But the best moment of his all-action outing was, of course, the delicious cross he whipped into the corridor of uncertainty behind Liverpool's defenders in the 36th minute.
James's cross from the right was the kind of delivery that strikers dream of and Rashford gleefully snapped up the opportunity to put United ahead. There was almost a mirror image created at the other end in the second half when our summer signing from Swansea City broke clear on the left this time and fired in a ball that just failed to find Rashford's run. Andreas Pereira kept the attack alive on the right and eventually Fred unleashed a shot that whistled past the far post.

Daniel also demonstrated his mettle by playing the full 90 minutes, despite some bruising encounters with Virgil van Dijk and, in particular, Fabinho who was booked for barging into the Wales international at one point.
James needed treatment after a clash with Fabinho before bravely playing on.
Speaking in his press conference after the game, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: "The boy’s got a great attitude. He has no fear. He’s brave. He gets kicked, he gets up again and then he gets kicked again.

"He must be a nightmare to play against when he gets space. The boy has been a delight to work with and I thought him and Marcus played really well today."
