Following the conclusion of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup final on Sunday, Manchester United legend David Beckham was quick to praise current Reds goalkeeper Mary Earps.

The Lionesses were defeated 1-0 by Spain, after a first-half drive from Olga Carmona, with Earps saving a second-half penalty in the enthralling encounter.

Ella Toone also started in Sydney, while Reds captain Katie Zelem was among the substitutes and made two appearances throughout her first major tournament with England.

Following the narrow defeat, Earps's Golden Glove award was confirmed, and Becks was quick to celebrate the stopper on his Instagram story.

Mary was awarded for her impressive tournament, despite England's 1-0 loss to Spain in the final.

"Congratulations on the Golden Glove," wrote the former United winger, tagging Earps in his story.

With England trailing in the second half against Spain, a penalty was awarded against Lionesses midfielder Keira Walsh for handball in the box.

Up stepped former Barcelona striker Jenni Hermoso, but Earps guessed the right way and caught the spot-kick, breathing new life into England.

Unfortunately, despite the bounce Sarina Wiegman's team received from Earps's save, they could not find the leveller and had to settle for runners-up medals in Sydney.

It goes without saying that we are extremely proud of Mary, Ella and Katie, and the impact they have had on the nation this summer.

Supportive messages from team-mates and fans poured in following the full-time whistle, and we look forward to welcoming them home after their well-earned break.
