De Gea discusses wonder save from Pukki

Sunday 12 December 2021 08:00

David De Gea was delighted to keep a second consecutive clean sheet as his Man of the Match performance against Norwich City was described as "world-class" and "fantastic".

Cristiano Ronaldo's 75th-minute penalty, emphatically converted past Tim Krul, gave Manchester United three points to take home from Norwich, but it was the goalkeeping heroics of De Gea that will stick longer in the memory.

On several occasions, the hosts appeared certain to have finally beaten the 31-year-old shot-stopper, only for De Gea to come up with a piece of brilliance.

Discussing his display post-match, he explained to club media that his favourite save was his denial of Teemu Pukki in the 55th-minute, which you can watch below.

"I think the Pukki one was probably the most difficult one, quick turn, shoot with the left, I stopped with my fingers," De Gea said.

"It was a very difficult save. I always say the same, I'm there to help the team, especially on days like today, a difficult, difficult game. One goal from Cristiano, 1-0, three points, it's a big win for us."

There were other crucial interventions from De Gea, including a brilliant stop from Ozan Kabak.

"It was a great game, the rain, like a proper English football so it was nice," De Gea enthused, before reviewing United's overall performance, which wasn't perfect despite the result.

Norwich's Ozan Kabak couldn't believe his eyes when David De Gea made this save at Carrow Road...

"It's a massive win for us. Norwich improved a lot since the new manager came so it was a tough game for sure, especially the last 15-20 minutes.

"We gave the ball away too easy, too quick, so we need to improve on that but the first half we controlled the game, we had the ball, we created chances.

"Of course we want to improve, we want to score more goals but two clean sheets in a row [in the league] is big for us because we were conceding a lot of goals in the last few weeks. It's important for us. We can take confidence from today, from Palace and let's keep going."
