Wednesday 05 February 2020 17:00

Manchester United will hold a memorial event at Old Trafford tomorrow (Thursday) to mark the 62nd anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster.

Former players, staff and supporters will gather beneath the Munich plaque at the south-east corner of the Old Trafford forecourt to pay their respects to the 23 people who lost their lives in the tragedy on 6 February 1958, while Bryan Robson and Casey Stoney are to lay wreaths on behalf of the club.

The service begins at 14:45 GMT, with a reading from Reverend John Boyers, and will consist of several prayers, poems and songs, including a rendition of The Flowers of Manchester.

The Reverend John Boyers.

Two of our Academy players are to read out a short Munich poem, while Jimmy Murphy Jnr will be in attendance to share memories of his father and the Busby Babes.

As is customary, the names of those who passed will be read out, prior to a minute’s silence at 15:04 GMT, which marks the time the fatal plane crash occurred 62 years ago.

All supporters are welcome to attend Thursday’s memorial event.

For those who are unable to make it in person, MUTV will be broadcasting a live stream of the commemorative service from 14:45 GMT, which you will be able to watch in our Official App and on the homepage of ManUtd.com.
