United Women v PSG: First-leg details

Tuesday 19 September 2023 17:00

Details of Manchester United Women’s Champions League round-two first leg against Paris Saint-Germain have now been confirmed.

Our ever-improving team will take part in the competition for the very first time, following last season’s second-placed finish in the Women’s Super League.

Last Friday, United Women were drawn against PSG in one of 12 two-legged knockout ties, with the winners joining reigning champions Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Lyon in the groups.

Our first leg with PSG will be played on Tuesday 10 October at Leigh Sports Village, where kick-off is scheduled for 20:00 GMT.

Tickets for the big game are available to order - secure your seats now.

Fans can also watch the match live via MUTV in the United App.

Details of the second leg will be confirmed in due course.

In our interview last Friday, United Women manager Marc Skinner was typically upbeat and looked forward to the challenge of facing a talented PSG team. “Look, we knew we were we could draw a team of PSG’s calibre,” he told us.

“But I've got to create a Manchester United team that is feared by the opponent, as well as us being respectful of the opponent we're playing. PSG are a fantastic team, great history, especially in the women's game. Very, very difficult to play against.
“But if you want to challenge yourself, if you want to be in the Champions League, if you want to go to the latter stages, you'd end up playing them anyway. So from my perspective, yeah it's a difficult tie, for sure, but it's something that we've got to get used to and that's another test of our mentality.

“It's another test of our bravery, to want to go and challenge ourselves. That's why we're here. And that's what we've got. So it’s a difficult tie, but I'll welcome it.”

Have you heard? United Women will face PSG in the Champions League! Here's what Marc Skinner thinks...

Expanding on his point, Skinner pointed out how PSG will look at our squad and know that they have an extremely difficult tie ahead.

“You know, we go through a difficult qualification here in our league because you've got to finish [in the] top three to be even anywhere near it,” said Marc.

“So I'm hoping that with the new players we have as well, PSG will look at our team and go, ‘well, we've got to be at our very best’ and it will hopefully be a clash of the titans early on.

“I'm a big believer in mindset and how you approach a game. But I will not let us approach this game other than we've got to be at our very best. We've got to perform to our very best to give ourselves the best chance to win.”
