Donny van de Beek

Revealed: What Donny thinks of our attack

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek says it's a joy to play in a team of attacking players who can make anything happen.

The Dutchman played a starring role in the Reds' excellent 4-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir on Tuesday night at Old Trafford.

A Bruno Fernandes double got Ole's men off and running before a Marcus Rashford penalty and a late strike from substitute Daniel James topped off the Champions League victory.

Van de Beek received plenty of praise for the part he played as did Edinson Cavani on his first start, while James and Mason Greenwood made a strong impact after coming off the bench in the second half.

Donny reflected on the victory and his role and praised the men in front of him.

"They are amazing," he told us. "You know you can always have options to give the ball to play to these amazing players. You know something happens if you play the ball to them.
"I played also before, a lot, in that position and, when I came in my first year in Ajax, I was always playing in the no.6 position," he added.

"After that, we got a new coach and he put me in the no.10 position because he said you make a lot of goals so it’s better you play there. I can play in both positions – it doesn’t matter so much for me."

Champions League football is back at Old Trafford with Paris Saint-Germain visiting next Wednesday, but this weekend attentions turn back to the Premier League with a trip to Southampton as the Reds look to build on three wins from three.
"I expect a really difficult game," added Donny. "I think they do really well. They are strong and play as a team.

"We need to watch for ourselves, though, and I think the most important thing is we now improve and that we show what we can do every week, not just every two or three matches, but we are consistent."
