United v Brighton: Early team news from Jose

Friday 16 March 2018 14:00

Jose Mourinho has told us there will be no changes to the Manchester United squad for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup quarter-final against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The boss confirmed the same group of players will be available for the last-eight tie at Old Trafford, as for the UEFA Champions League defeat to Sevilla.

Marcos Rojo, who has signed a new contract with United, has missed recent matches as well as Phil Jones, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

When asked by MUTV’s Mark Sullivan if any injured players will be available to face Brighton, Mourinho said: “No, not yet. [The squad is] exactly the same [as Sevilla].”

Several players have tweeted to assure fans the Champions League exit has prompted a passionate response in the squad.

Speaking soon afterwards in his pre-match press conference at the Aon Training Complex, the boss admitted it is good to have another game so soon, after the disappointment of being knocked out of Europe, and he has been impressed with the reaction of the players this week.

“I’m happy with what I saw in my players after the match,” he told reporters. “I'm happy that people were sad that people were frustrated. I mean, I'm really happy with that. I'm happy we were exactly on the same page and I'm happy to see the boys coming back again to my page.

“You don’t have many days to be sad, so I'm happy that the players have come back exactly as myself. We train very well, always. We train always very well, so we don't need reaction to train better than we do because the training, the professionality, the enthusiasm, the organisation, every training session with us since day one, since I arrived, the players have been absolutely brilliant.”
