Mourinho's team news update: Burnley v United

Friday 19 January 2018 15:41

Jose Mourinho has given an update on his Manchester United squad before Saturday’s Premier League match at Burnley, by confirming Daley Blind has suffered a little injury in training.

While speaking exclusively to MUTV’s Helen Evans at the Aon Training Complex, the manager also confirmed that defender Eric Bailly and striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic are still recovering from injuries.

"Nothing new to report," Jose said. "Just a little problem with Daley in training today. It is an injury but nothing really important. Apart from that, Eric and Zlatan are still recovering. Everyone else is fit and good."

The good news is that the experienced and versatile Ashley Young is available again, after serving a three-match ban that was received following the match against Southampton on 30 December.

Luke Shaw has started the last five matches in all competitions at left-back, earning praise for his performances in the process, but it remains to be seen whether he or Young will play at Turf Moor.

Regular captain Antonio Valencia also returned from injury against Stoke City on Monday night and scored an amazing goal with his left foot. As you would expect, Mourinho is delighted to have him back.

"He is our captain, he is what I call a silent leader because he doesn’t make a lot of noise or talk," the boss told us. "But on the pitch he shows that experience, he shows that stability, that desire to win and the goal with the left foot was a miracle. But his performances are not a miracle at all. He is a very good player."

Later on in his first press conference, the manager was also asked whether Henrikh Mkhitaryan would be in contention to face Burnley. He told reporters: "No, not selected but in very good condition, training really well, and in perfect condition like the others."

United starting XI will be announced at 14:00 GMT on Saturday, exactly one hour ahead of kick-off.
