United's Under-21s set for EFL Trophy opener against Stockport

Monday 21 August 2023 11:41

Manchester United's Under-21s begin our EFL Trophy campaign with an away clash against League Two side Stockport County this Tuesday (22 August).

Kick-off is set for 19:30 BST at Edgeley Park, where the young Reds will be roared on by a sold-out away end.

Although the game will not be shown live on MUTV, updates will be available in the United App, followed by a match summary and video highlights.

Playing in the EFL Trophy provides our young players with key experience against senior sides that serves to aid their development as footballers for when they look to progress into the Football League.

Following the fixture against Stockport, the Under-21s' next EFL Trophy match is another away trip, to Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday 26 September. This will commence at 19:45 BST, and is subject to their participation in the Carabao Cup.

Should Bolton reach Round three of the Carabao Cup, our game against them will take place on Tuesday 10 October.

Tuesday 31 October is the date for our away trip to Salford City, the final side in our group, with kick-off at the Peninsula Stadium pencilled in for 19:30 BST

The Under-21s reached the third round in last season's competition, and will no doubt be hoping to go further in this year's tournament.

The team that eliminated us last term are coincidentally Bolton who, as mentioned, we will meet in the group stage this time round.

Broadcast details for the Bolton and Salford away matches will be released in due course, as will ticket information.
