How Toone reacted to Hodgkinson's gold medal
Manchester United Women’s Ella Toone has emotionally congratulated her school friend Keely Hodgkinson - also a fellow Red - on winning gold at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Ella and Keely both attended Fred Longworth High School in Tyldesley, Greater Manchester, and remain good friends to this day, supporting each other in their respective sports.
“I am so proud of you, everyone was rooting for you back home, you have done us all proud, and Fred Longworth proud as well. Enjoy the celebrations - come on Keely!”
Moments after winning gold, while speaking to the media, Hodgkinson was played Ella’s message and she was delighted to hear from her fellow Fred Longworth graduate.
“How quickly did you get her to send that?,” laughed Keely. “Oh that's amazing, our school is going to be so happy. Me and Ella grew up together, she's two years older than me but we went to the same school.”

The Olympic champion added: “To see us both from the same hometown, on a world level, really pushing female sports is incredible. Ella's doing amazing and I'm hoping to follow in her footsteps and do great things for women's sport.”
When asked about the remarkable feat of one school producing two leading sportswomen, she said: “I know, they love us! I will be going back to say hi at some point because they really supported me at school as well.”
Congratulations on your incredible success, Keely, from everybody at Manchester United.
