Manchester United Women winger Ella Toone made her 100th appearance for the club in Sunday’s 1-0 Women’s Super League triumph over Brighton at Leigh Sports Village.

Speaking to MUTV after the win, the 22-year-old reflected on being the first-ever United Women player to reach this historic landmark.

She said: “I’m delighted to make 100 appearances. Every game in this shirt is special, so to get 100 is amazing. I’m really proud and hopefully, I can get many more.”

The attacker played for United at youth level and returned to the club in 2018 following stints with Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City.

The Reds were in the Championship at that time and after scoring on her league debut - an emphatic 12-0 victory away to Aston Villa - Toone helped the side to promotion in her first season.

Toone has recorded a tally of 40 goals in all competitions across her century of appearances and was the club’s top goalscorer last season with 10.

Prior to the kick-off of Sunday’s vital win against Brighton, Toone was presented with a framed shirt on the pitch by United Women manager Marc Skinner.

Following the match, Skinner expressed his congratulations to the England international.

He said: “She’s a wonderful player for this club and she’s got lots of aspirations of being a top, top player.

“[She is] someone I love working with every day to try and make her that player that she wants to be.”

Toone will now join up with England for the upcoming international break, before returning to the club for the season run-in. Speaking to club media, she expressed the importance of Sunday's hard-fought victory going into the season's final break.

“It’s vital,” said the winger. “To go away now on [international] camp after a win is always great.

“When we’ve done camp, we will focus on the next game in front of us. Every game now is vital for us.”
