Southgate reveals Sancho has a 'slight injury'

Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho could miss England’s World Cup qualifying match against Hungary on Thursday night due to injury.

Our exciting summer signing from Borussia Dortmund linked up with the Three Lions following Sunday’s Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Sancho was proudly named in the England squad alongside his United team-mates Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Jesse Lingard, with three fixtures pencilled in for the current international break.

However, during a press conference at St George's Park on Wednesday morning, manager Gareth Southgate revealed that Jadon might miss out on the first outing, with a slight injury sustained in training.

“We've got a small knock with Jadon this morning,” the England boss told reporters. “So we are going to assess him. Everybody else, I think, is fine for the game.”

England currently have a two-point lead in Group I of World Cup qualifying, and a victory over second-placed Hungary on Thursday evening would only strengthen that advantage.

The Three Lions are also set to host Andorra at Wembley Stadium on Sunday (17:00 BST), before travelling to Poland next Wednesday night (19:45 BST).

When those international fixtures are completed, Sancho and his fellow Reds will return to Carrington to prepare for our Premier League match against Newcastle United on Saturday 11 September.

A certain Cristiano Ronaldo could make a second debut for the club in that game at 15:00 BST, following the completion of his transfer back to Old Trafford from Juventus.

Welcome back, Cristiano Ronaldo:
