Ten Hag explains United team to face Real Betis

Thursday 09 March 2023 19:42

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has named an unchanged side for tonight's Europa League clash with Real Betis at Old Trafford.

The boss has opted for the same 11 players who started at Anfield, believing it is a side that can secure a positive result against our Spanish opponents in this evening's Round-of-16 encounter.

Raphael Varane continues to partner Lisandro Martinez at the back, with Fred alongside Casemiro in the middle of the park. Bruno Fernandes retains the captain's armband, with Harry Maguire named among the substitutes, and is joined once again in attack by Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Wout Weghorst.

"We want to win," Ten Hag told BT before kick-off. "We need a good performance and we think this is the best team to get a good performance and to win the game."

The Dutchman is wary that our 'standards have dropped' in the last week or so, and is looking to his starting line-up to provide a reaction.

"We lowered our standards over the last couple of games and on Sunday we got hammered for it in the second half," he continued.

"We have to get back to our standards, to our values, to our demands. That is what we have to bring on the pitch."
