Ten Hag names his team for Toon test

Saturday 02 December 2023 19:00

Erik ten Hag has named his Manchester United side to face Newcastle United at St James' Park this evening (20:00 GMT kick-off).

The Reds face a tough test on Tyneside on the back of a long trip to Turkey in midweek, when drawing 3-3 with Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League.

However, Erik's men are in good form domestically, winning five of our last six Premier League matches and not conceding a goal in our last three victories.

There are four changes to the starting line-up. Luke Shaw looks set to play centre-back, alongside fellow England international Harry Maguire, with Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka both starting.

“Well, we think it’s tactical, also rotation is part of it," the boss told TNT Sports. "We have to load management all the players but also for Luke, as a centre-half, he has to run less. As a full-back, we expect something different but also doing something tactical over that side.”

Kobbie Mainoo starts for the second successive league match, and is up against fellow youngster Lewis Miley in the middle of the park. Anthony Martial leads the line, with Rasmus Hojlund moving to the bench, and Marcus Rashford is in, following his European suspension on Wednesday.

Victor Lindelof, Antony and Donny van de Beek are among the substitutes.
