Ten Hag reveals team news for Betis tie

Wednesday 08 March 2023 13:00

Erik ten Hag has revealed his squad plans for Manchester United's Europa League tie with Real Betis.

The Reds are taking on the Spanish side in the last 16 of the Europa League, determined to move on from Sunday's Premier League defeat at Liverpool.

Ahead of Thursday's first leg, which kicks off at 20:00 GMT, the boss conducted his interview with club media at Carrington and said Austria international Marcel Sabitzer will not be available, as he awaits his first Europa League minutes for the Reds.

Centre-forward Anthony Martial is also still out, but is bidding to return soon from a hip problem.

"We have a strong programme," Ten Hag told MUTV's Mark Sullivan. "But I think we are quite good. The only disappointment is Marcel Sabitzer is not available, as well as Anthony Martial.

"Anthony Martial is back on the pitch, so we will see. For the rest, everyone is available and we are ready for the game.''

This would suggest both Casemiro and Raphael Varane are in contention to play despite some reports of the former Real Madrid pair suffering knocks of late.

Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek remain sidelined due to injury but there are no suspension issues for the match.

REAL BETIS'S TEAM NEWS

Former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has already named his squad for the encounter, the club's first-ever match at Old Trafford.

After holding Real Madrid to a goalless draw at the weekend, the visitors welcome midfielder Sergio Canales back into the fold, following an injury lay-off.

Nabil Fekir is absent, due to knee surgery, but Leicester City loanee Ayoze Perez and 41-year-old Joaquin are among those travelling in the group.
