Ten Hag: I see a happy Marcus Rashford

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says he sees “a happy Marcus Rashford” that is reaping the rewards of hard work and good energy in training.

Our no.10 has looked full of running in the opening weeks of the new campaign and also appears to have found his scoring touch in front of goal, netting three times so far in 2022/23.

The winner against Liverpool and Sunday’s game-deciding brace in the victory over Arsenal on Sunday has highlighted the early impact Marcus is having under his new boss.

The 24-year-old’s new-season form was therefore a talking point during Ten Hag’s pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday’s Europa League opener against Real Sociedad.

"Once again it is difficult for me to talk about the past,” Erik began when asked what the differences were between Marcus’s performances so far this term and last season.

“But what I see: I see a happy Marcus Rashford and I see some phases in his game that we could improve.

“And we worked really hard in the last two-and-a-half months with him on different aspects.

“He likes it, and he wants to transfer it to the pitch, and that is what you see in this moment.”
The boss says that the positive attitude he has seen from the forward at training will have had a big part to play in his early-season output in the matches.

“It started with happiness. He is coming here every day, he really enjoys it, he's really smiling.

“He has a really positive vibe and if you put all of those things together with the way of play and you want to improve different aspects of your game and you are happy, you will contribute more to the team, to the performance, to the result, and also to your development."

Ten Hag also stated his desire to work with Rashford for the long term, stating that he would “definitely” like Marcus to be at United for years to come.

"I don't think he is out of contract [in the summer], I think United control the situation,” he added when responding to a question about the forward's future.
