Ten Hag: The onus is on us

Tuesday 24 October 2023 08:00

Erik ten Hag says that despite the threat FC Copenhagen pose, Manchester United should not be phased, as the Reds look to win our first UEFA Champions League match of the season.

Following defeats to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, the Reds will be keen to kickstart our European campaign.

Copenhagen, whom current United striker Rasmus Hojlund started his career at, are top of the Danish Superliga and drew 2-2 away at Galatasaray and lost 2-1 at Bayern.

Ahead of the match, which is our first since club legend Sir Bobby Charlton passed away, the boss says he wants his team to focus on their own performance rather than the threat of the visitors.

Matchday Q&A: Ten Hag on FC Copenhagen (H)

Matchday Q&A | Erik talks about United's recovery from Saturday's win, ahead of our match against FC Copenhagen...

Tomorrow, we’ve got the chance to honour Sir Bobby at Old Trafford. How emotional will the occasion be and how are you feeling ahead of that?
"I think it will be a very emotional night. In the passing away of Sir Bobby Charlton, a legend, this club is losing a legend. We are aware of it, the last couple of days here in Old Trafford. Here at Carrington. Here at Old Trafford tomorrow, definitely. So we will miss him. But his legacy we will live his legacy all day. We already do but I think with him passing away it is emphasised already."

After the weekend, how's the recovery been?
"It's short but first impressions are good. We recovered well. So we are, of course, highly motivated. [We have] to [look] after each other. It's important to build the confidence. And from here on, we have to build on here."

Any changes to your matchday squad for the game against the Danes?
"I expect Sergio Reguilon back, but I'm not sure . We have final training, but he will be involved in a training. And if everything's going right, he will be involved in the game."

How do you assess the threat of a Copenhagen?
"They are doing very well. Against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich they play two very good games. So it's an opponent who is very strong, very physical, very well organised. But as I said, it's about us and how we play against them."
