Sevilla v United: The Essential Info

Wednesday 12 August 2020 11:52

Manchester United will meet Sevilla in the Europa League semi-final on Sunday, as both sides strive to reach the competition's showpiece final.

The Reds will play at Stadion Koln once again – the site of our 1-0 quarter-final victory over FC Copenhagen, after extra-time, on Monday evening – and, as in the last round, the tie will be contested over just one leg, due to the restructured format.

We last reached this stage of the Europa League in 2017, where we faced another Spanish side, Celta Vigo. United triumphed 2-1 on aggregate thanks to a Marcus Rashford free-kick in Vigo and a Marouane Fellaini header at Old Trafford.

Ole: You don’t get a second chance

The one-legged nature of the Europa League semi-finals means we have to leave everything on the pitch, says the boss…

Sevilla, meanwhile, are perennial fixtures at this stage of the competition. They've won the Europa League five times, more than any other club, including three times in the last seven seasons.

Here are the key details for Sunday's crunch fixture, which could see us reach our eighth European final...
WHICH TV CHANNEL IS IT ON?

Sunday's game will be shown live in the UK by BT Sport, with kick-off set for 20:00 BST. MUTV subscribers can watch exclusive build-up to the game via our Match Day Live show from 18:55 BST, followed by live commentary of the game itself. With fans unable to attend in person, season-ticket holders have been offered free access to MUTV Digital for two months, and can watch match highlights the following day, along with the rest of our exclusive content.

ANY EARLY TEAM NEWS?

There were six changes to the starting XI for the Copenhagen game, and five substitutions were made during the course of the 120 minutes of football. So there's every chance that Ole will continue to rotate his team as this gruelling season nears its conclusion. Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof both played no part in the 2-1 victory over LASK in the last round, and didn't enter the field until the 70-minute mark against Copenhagen, so they are two possible candidates for a starting berth against the Andalusians. The boss made no reference to any injury concerns in any of his post-match interviews, but keep an eye on ManUtd.com and our Official App for more news from inside the camp as the week progresses.

Bruno Fernandes was cool, calm, and collected from the penalty spot to secure a marginal win over FCK.

RIVALS WATCH

Should we negotiate the stiff challenge presented by Sevilla, we'll meet either Internazionale or Shakhtar Donetsk in the final – which,  like our quarter-final and semi-final, will take place at Stadion Koln. The Nerazzurri beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 to reach the semis, while the Ukrainians swept Basel aside 4-1. The pair meet at the Dusseldorf Arena 24 hours after our game with Sevilla, to decide who will join the winners of our last-four tie in the Europa League's climactic fixture.
