Euro 2025 update: Toone scores as England win

Ella Toone scored one of the goals as England beat the Netherlands 4-0 at Women's Euro 2025.

The Manchester United favourite bagged the fourth and final strike in a convincing victory for the holders, who were under pressure going into the Group D encounter, following an opening defeat to France at the weekend.

It was some way to kickstart the campaign, with Wales to come next, on Sunday.

Former Red Lauren James opened the scoring with a superb strike into the top corner, before Georgia Stanway doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time.

James added her second before Tooney's big moment, in the 67th minute. Ex-United team-mate and friend Alessia Russo made an intelligent run, considered the options and laid the ball across to Toone, who did not rush things and kept her composure to drill a low drive past Daphne van Domselaar in the Dutch goal.

Ella produced an emotional celebration and was replaced by Reds pal Grace Clinton moments later.

Dominique Janssen played the full 90 minutes in defence for the Netherlands but Maya Le Tissier remained on the bench for England.
