It is fair to say that Lisandro Martinez has become a firm fans’ favourite since joining Manchester United from Ajax in the summer.
The Argentina international has a giant heart and, without question, Reds supporters have immediately taken to his all-action, aggressive style of defending.
Granted, Martinez and, indeed, the team endured a tricky start to the season, but, from the Liverpool win onwards, he has been absolutely excellent and looks increasingly settled alongside Raphael Varane. The club’s new no.6 was even voted our Player of the Month for August.

“I just think Martinez has brought character, aggression, quality on the ball and in possession,” says journalist Whitwell. “Certainly from Erik ten Hag's point of view, that was one of the main reasons why he brought him in, because he has that aggression and he can feel that connection with the fans.
“Against Sheriff, the referee made him go off by the goal and it was actually better for him going off that way because then he got the adulation from the away fans singing 'Argentina'. He spoke about it after the game and little things like that make you feel more welcome.”
