Bruno Fernandes celebrates scoring against Brighton.

What does Bruno put our form down to?

Tuesday 30 June 2020 23:33

Bruno Fernandes believes one of the reasons behind Manchester United’s superb recent performances is the strength in depth Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has in his first-team squad.

The Reds’ 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion ensured our unbeaten run was extended to 15 matches in all competitions - the longest spell in Ole’s tenure as boss.

Fernandes was once again amongst the goals on the south coast and was voted Man of the Match by supporters on our Official App. However, the midfielder, who bagged two on the night, was keen to share the limelight with his team-mates and insisted it is a team effort that has resulted in our excellent run of form.

“I don’t think it is fair on the guys who are out,” our no.18 told MUTV, when asked abut the excellent showing at the Amex Stadium.

“In the last games, before the stop, Scotty [McTominay] and Fred played very well and we have a lot of good results. Now it’s Nema [Matic], Paul [Pogba] and me, sometimes Andy [Pereira] or Juan [Mata] can play no.10, or Jesse - we have a lot of qualities and I don’t think it is fair on the guys who are out to just talk about me and Paul.

“We have so much quality and this becomes higher because we train together and we push [each other]. I know if I’m not okay, another player will play. So I need to be at my best on the training field.

“I need to be better and better to help the team. Everyone thinks the same way and that’s why we are playing this way and the results are coming. We know we need to give our best because we have such good quality.”
Bruno also believes the Reds’ squad depth means Ole is benefiting from the added substitutions currently in operation in the Premier League.

“You need to be focused and give everything for the team, for the club,” he said. “I think everyone here knows that we represent a big team, so we need to give our best and to push forward and to keep trying.

“This is what the players are doing now - that’s fantastic. It doesn’t matter if we are tired, other guys are coming in and playing such a good game.

“They can bring more intensity because they are fresh, so we know we can give everything and if you are tired, you can come out. Now we have five changes this is better for us. The most important thing is the result at the end.”
After such an impressive performance against Brighton, Bruno has already switched his attention to Saturday’s game against Bournemouth, where the Reds will once again look to pick up three points in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

“We are really happy with what we do, but now we are looking forward to the next game,” he said.

“We need to recover well because we want to be in the Champions League places and we know we need to keep going this way.

“I think it will be fantastic, but I think we have a great chance to achieve what we want and what we deserve.”
