Update on Fred, Shaw and Cavani

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has issued a further update on three of his sidelined players, during an exclusive interview with club media.

The boss told MUTV's Stewart Gardner at Carrington on Friday that Fred is set to miss the Premier League game at Arsenal over the weekend. However, the Brazil international is targeting a comeback in next week's home fixture with Chelsea.

The South American's availability would be a boost, with Paul Pogba likely to be absent for the remainder of the campaign with a calf problem.

Ralf Rangnick provides the latest on his squad for the trip to the capital to face the Gunners.

"[With] Fred, we don’t know," said Ralf. "Hopefully, he will be an option for the game against Chelsea, but, tomorrow, no."

The 29-year-old has been out since being forced off in the 1-0 defeat to Everton earlier this month.

There is, unfortunately, the prospect that Luke Shaw could miss the rest of the season, like Pogba.

The left-back had been experiencing pain related to his broken leg surgery and, while that is being remedied, it is necessitating another spell out of the team. When asked if he may play again this term, Rangnick replied: “Luke Shaw, probably not, with his bolts and screws being removed from his leg, I don’t see him coming back in the next four weeks."

Alex Telles, Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have all filled in to Luke's position recently.

Edinson Cavani, who sustained another injury while on international duty with Uruguay, is also unavailable for the game with the Gunners.

Yet there appears to remain hope he will reappear during the run-in, even though there are only five games remaining for the Reds.

"Edinson Cavani is training with our physios and coaches but, as yet, he hasn’t been able to train with the team,” declared Ralf.
