Wednesday 26 April 2023 11:00

Manchester United midfielder Fred has revealed his goal target for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.

Erik ten Hag's side have just nine games remaining in all competitions, with our focus on securing both a top-four spot in the Premier League and further silverware in the FA Cup final.

Our no.17 has already found the net six times this term, surpassing his previous season-best of four, from the 2021/22 campaign.

Speaking via the latest episode of the UTD Podcast, alongside Helen Evans and Sam Homewood, Fred was asked how many strikes he is striving for before the season comes to a close.

Fred's six goals in 2022/23 make this his best United season to date - watch them all here...

Questioned whether reaching double figures was his ultimate target, he replied: Yeah, of course. When I score it is so good and I can [hopefully] score 10 goals this season.

With the help of the good football we play, I play more in front, so I can play inside the box. I have more chance to shoot and score goals.

So I have scored six but I will try and score more.”
Having already netted in important Premier League wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest, the former Shakhtar Donetsk man has developed the useful habit of coming up clutch when most needed.

Fred also played a pivotal role in our Europa League play-off success over Barcelona back in February, and it comes as no surprise that Fred opted for his memorable equaliser against the Catalans as his favourite of the campaign so far.

“Barcelona, for sure,” our no.17 told UTD Podcast. “It was a nice goal and an important one for the team.”

Goal of the Day | In our last Europa League match, Fred brought United level against Barcelona at Old Trafford...

“I was so excited because we know that Barcelona are one of the best teams in the world. In the Spanish league they are at the top and they are very good this season, so we needed to show who was the best team.

“We played very well and when we looked at the Europa League draw, we said: 'Wow, we are playing against Barcelona.' So we were so excited to play this game at both Camp Nou and at Old Trafford against Barcelona; it was so good.

“When I scored this goal we were losing 1-0, so to get the goal that made it 1-1, it made us think: wow, we can win now. Then we won the game, which was amazing.”
