Your guide to the Carabao Cup fourth round
Manchester United’s next game – at home to Newcastle United – is one of eight ties to be played in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
The Reds will be looking to make an immediate response to Sunday’s disappointing derby defeat, during the 20:15 GMT kick-off at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
Before we look to continue our defence of the trophy, in a repeat occurrence of last year’s successful final for Erik ten Hag’s side, here is a comprehensive guide to round four of this season’s competition, detailing everything you need – and may want - to know ahead of this week’s matches.
WHO REMAINS IN THE COMPETITION?
United and Newcastle are two of the 10 Premier League outfits in the hunt for the silverware, as the last-16 prepares to get under way. Seven top-flight teams exited at the previous stage, including Manchester City, while Tottenham Hotspur were one of three sides from our division to be knocked out in round two.
The other six clubs still in the competition come from the EFL, with Blackburn Rovers, former Reds coach Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town and ex-United midfielder Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough all representatives from the Championship.
Exeter City and Port Vale are flying the flag for League One, while League Two outfit Mansfield Town are the lowest ranked side left in the tournament, as a member of the fourth tier.
