Two Reds return to first-team training

Our photographer was at Carrington this morning (Wednesday) to capture Manchester United’s training session, ahead of our Premier League trip to Brighton on Saturday.

The Reds are fresh from earning a much-needed win over Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday.

Goals from Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane secured a 3-0 success against Thomas Frank's side, which is the biggest margin of victory of Ralf Rangnick’s interim tenure so far.

Fred and Edinson Cavani came on as substitutes in the clash with the Bees and were able to thank the fans in our last home game of the season as they returned from injury lay-offs, but Luke Shaw (leg), Paul Pogba (calf) and Jadon Sancho (tonsillitis) remain on the sidelines, with Ralf suggesting they may not feature again this season.

Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were also absent, both players having last featured in the disappointing 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on 19 April.

However, the defensive pair were involved in training on Wednesday, as focus turned to the clash with Graham Potter’s Seagulls, which will be our penultimate game of the 2021/22 season.

Maguire has been suffering from a knee problem, meaning he missed the home games with Chelsea and Brentford.

Fernandes has been filling in as captain, although Rangnick suggested earlier this week that the England international could be in line for a return at the weekend, should he get through training unscathed.

Wan-Bissaka’s issue was unspecified and, like Maguire, he did make the bench at Arsenal before dropping out of the matchday squad for our two consecutive matches in M16.

As you can see from our gallery above, Aaron participated with the rest of the squad during Wednesday's session and hopefully he can be involved at the weekend – and in two weeks' time when we travel to his old club Crystal Palace – as we look to finish the campaign on a high.
