Maguire: We have enough leaders here

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire believes the current squad is full of leaders, as we prepare to take on Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.

The 27-year-old appeared alongside manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for a press conference at the Aon Training Complex, ahead of the team's flight to Turkey.

Maguire was asked about comments made by Reds legend Roy Keane in the aftermath of our home reverse against Arsenal at the weekend.

Our no.5 replied that, although he hadn’t had time to digest what Keane had to say, he was confident that the Reds had enough authority and character in our ranks to move forward from the Gunners defeat.

“I haven't seen his comments,” said Maguire. “But we don't look at what's happening [in the media], especially after a negative result. We don't want to bring negativity into the place.

“We stay positive and I can say, for sure, there are a lot of leaders in this squad. I'm the captain and I've got a lot of leaders around me, the staff and players.

“For sure, there are a lot of leaders in this squad.”

Keane’s views, aired on Sky Sports as the channel’s pundits digested Sunday’s performance, have gained a lot of traction on social media.

But although Solskjaer has time for his former team-mate, his opinion chimes with that of the current skipper.

The manager insisted he and his players wouldn’t dwell on Roy's remarks too much, with important games against Basaksehir and Everton coming up.

“Well, Roy has always been outspoken,” Ole added.

“We've got different jobs. Roy's job is to give his opinion, and I always listen to Roy, but we move on here with a great group of players, a strong group, and I am sure we will see a response.

“I'm very glad we've got the players we have here with us.”
