Ladd: We'll take confidence from final defeat

Hayley Ladd believes Manchester United will “take a lot of experience and a lot of confidence” into the closing stages of the season following Sunday’s defeat to Chelsea in the Vitality Women's FA Cup final.

The Reds missed out on clinching silverware in their inaugural Women’s FA Cup final appearance after Sam Kerr’s second-half goal separated a competitive affair.

Speaking to club media after the match, Ladd said: “It is obviously gutting to lose that and in the manner which we did.

“I think we did so many things in the game right and things that would hurt them.”

Despite losing the Women's FA Cup final to Chelsea, Hayley Ladd says there were plenty of positives for the Reds...

Despite enjoying a number of chances throughout the afternoon, United were unable to convert any of our 14 shots against a resolute Chelsea defence that has conceded just 29 times in all competitions this term.

“I think we just had one lapse of concentration and they punished us,” Ladd commented.

“It is obviously hard to take, but we are pleased with a lot of things from the performance.

“They are a top team for a reason. They know all those kinds of tricks of the trade and the kind of gamesmanship stuff. So, we have got to expect that.

The Welsh international was keen to underline the strength of United’s performance on the day, however, and the need to build upon the positives for future success in the competition.

“I thought we had enough maybe just to nick it in the end and to level us. But you know what? We didn't today and in the future, we will obviously hope to rectify that.”
