Mourinho explains duo's absence at Newcastle

Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera have both been ruled out of Sunday's clash with Newcastle at St James' Park due to injuries, Jose Mourinho has confirmed.

The energetic duo were both left out of the United matchday squad for the visit to Tyneside and Mourinho has confirmed it was due to slight muscle injuries.

"Both are injured," revealed the boss.

Asked if the injuries were long term, the United manager was fairly confident the pair would be back in action sooner rather than later.

"I don't think so, but let's wait a little bit," he added. "When it's little tweaks in muscles you never know until you know for sure, but it's not possible for them to play today."

It's the first time this season Rashford has been missing from the Reds' matchday squad and both he and Herrera will be hopeful of being fit for next Saturday's trip to Huddersfield in the Emirates FA Cup fifth round.
