Highlights & reaction: Brighton v United

Saturday 26 September 2020 17:19

Manchester United won our first Premier League of the season in dramatic fashion as Brighton & Hove Albion were beaten 3-2 at the Amex Stadium.

The hosts took the lead from the penalty spot after Bruno Fernandes fouled Tariq Lamptey. French striker Neal Maupay converted it coolly with a Panenka dink.

As Brighton looked set for a half-time lead, Fernandes put a cross into the box from a free-kick. Nemanja Matic touched the ball back in and Lewis Dunk put it into his own net after being pressured by United skipper Harry Maguire.

Ten minutes into the second half, United went in front through a wonderful goal from Marcus Rashford. Bruno fed the forward behind the home defence before the Wythenshawe man dribbled his way into the Brighton box.

With his left foot, our no.10 expertly scored the 10,000th goal in the club's history.

In injury time, the game twisted and turned. Following pressure from the hosts, Solly March equalised in the 95th minute. However, the scoring was not done there. A Maguire header was blocked by Maupay's hand shortly after. After a VAR check, a 100th-minute penalty was converted by Fernandes to secure three points for United.
