Maya Le Tissier leads the team out at Atleti, during the league phase.

Match preview: Atleti v United

Tuesday 10 February 2026 09:54

Manchester United Women enter the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds this week, with our play-off tie against Atletico Madrid getting under way on Thursday, at 20:00 GMT.

Atleti finished below us in the league phase, so they will host the first leg, as we return to the Centro Deportivo Wanda Alcala de Henares, where we won 1-0 in October.

Fridolina Rolfo was the matchwinner, as the Reds showed our resilience after Dominique Janssen's first-half red card.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the return to European action…

TEAM NEWS

Ella Toone and Leah Galton will be missing for the Reds through injury, with Marc Skinner suggesting before Saturday’s win at Leicester City that the latter may be in line for a return towards the end of the month.

Hanna Lundkvist, Lea Schuller and Ellen Wangerheim could make their European debuts for the club, after their arrivals during the winter window.

Atleti's Gio Garbelini hasn't featured since being injured during the United game in October.

Victor Martin's side boosted the midfield in January, adding Priscila Chinchilla and Kathrine Moller Kuhl to the squad, from Zenit and Roma respectively.

FORM GUIDE

United extended our winning run to five across all competitions, with a routine 2-0 success over Leicester City at the weekend.

Julia Zigiotti and Elisabeth Terland were the scorers at the King Power Stadium, as we closed the gap on leaders Manchester City to eight points, with seven games to play.

Atleti, meanwhile, edged past Levante thanks to an early strike from Silvia Lloris.

That was their first top-flight victory since November, but progress has been made in the Copa de la Reina, as the capital club are into the semi-finals, where they’ll face Tenerife.

The Spaniards finished 11th in the league phase but failed to win any of their three home games.
