Hinata Miyazawa will also miss the match in Malta, after fracturing a foot while on international duty with Japan in early December. However, her fellow midfielder Irene Guerrero could return to action this week, having eyed this month for a comeback from her injury.

THE OPPOSITION

Currently sitting fifth in the Eredivisie, PSV have had a mixed start to the 2023/24 campaign. After five wins, three draws, and three losses, they trail first-placed FC Twente by 15 points, with the league leaders enjoying a perfect record of 11 wins from 11.

Roeland ten Berge’s side come into Friday evening’s clash with two wins in their last five, against Feyenoord and Heerenveen, and a breathless 3-3 encounter at home to Ajax in their final encounter before the festive break. PSV scored twice late on, through an own goal and Chimera Ripa, to come back from 3-1 down and boost their confidence for this new year. Ripa also assisted Joelle Smits' first-half opener.
