U21s preview: United v Crystal Palace

Thursday 11 August 2022 16:07

Manchester United’s Under-21s are in Premier League 2 action on Friday evening, taking on Crystal Palace at Leigh Sports Village.

The 19:00 BST kick-off is the young Reds’ 2022/23 home opener and entry is free for supporters but must be booked in advance here, while you can also watch the game live in your United App.

MUTV’s build-up will commence 15 minutes before the first whistle, while there will also be half-time analysis and post-match coverage.

It’s the first of three games for our teams this weekend, with Erik ten Hag's side travelling to Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday evening, while our women’s team continue preparations for the WSL season with a first outing of pre-season, at home to Liverpool, earlier in the day.

Our Under-21s will be hoping to register a first win of the new season, having come out on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline in our campaign opener at Arsenal last weekend.

Despite a superb early free-kick from Charlie Wellens, the Gunners equalised shortly before half-time before bagging two goals early in the second half to ensure the victory.
Young midfielder Charlie Savage, who was part of the senior side’s Tour 2022 preparations this summer, captained United’s side last weekend and could play again on Friday.

Sonny Aljofree, Dan Gore, Isak Hansen-Aaroen, Marc Jurado, Kobbie Mainoo, Sam Mather, Charlie McNeill and Logan Pye were all part of last season’s FA Youth Cup final-winning squad and were also named in last Saturday’s opening-day group.

New playing coach Tom Huddlestone could also feature for the first time on the pitch since joining the club earlier this month, during Friday's fixture as one of five permitted over-age outfield players.
