International Reds: Fernandes and Scanlon score

There was a real Manchester United feel about Portugal's 2-1 win over Scotland in the UEFA Nations League.

Former Red Scott McTominay headed the visitors into an early lead, with the new Napoli man taking his tally to 10 in his last 17 appearances for his country.

Portugal pressed for an equaliser and it came via Bruno Fernandes, as our skipper's shot from outside the box was only parried into the net by keeper Angus Gunn.

With Diogo Dalot and Cristiano Ronaldo both on as substitute, the Estadio da Luz erupted when the latter bagged a late winner, the 901st goal of his remarkable career.

Birthday boy Bruno was able to celebrate his 600th overall professional appearance in style and he messaged McTominay on Instagram afterwards to say: "I was already missing you, my guy.

"But don't score again on my birthday against me!"

There was also drama at the end of Gibraltar's game against Liechtenstein in Group D of the competition.

United youngster James Scanlon played the full match in attack and netted for the home side in the seventh minute of stoppage time. The teenager got his head onto a far-post cross by Julian Valarino and it looked certain to be the winner, only for a VAR intervention to award an even later penalty to Liechtenstein, converted by skipper Nicolas Hasler to earn a 2-2 draw.

At 17, Scanlon has understandably become the youngest scorer in the country's history, as they are relatively new to the international scene.

Denmark defeated Serbia 2-0, with Christian Eriksen playing for 68 minutes, before being replaced by Patrick Dorgu.

Our experienced schemer was a threat with his set-pieces and had a small part to play in the build-up to the opening goal by Albert Gronbaek. Yussuf Poulsen's brilliant overhead kick doubled the lead, just past the hour mark.
