DJ G2: Representing United means everything
Even when he’s not owning the stage somewhere in Manchester, there’s a good chance DJ G2 will be bringing the energy to wherever he is.
Earlier this summer, that was at a special shoot for our 2024/25 adidas home kit, where the popular disc jockey and proud United fan, who grew up in Stretford, radiated the room with his infectious personality and smile as he stylishly modelled our new wear.
G2 has made a name for himself as one of our city’s premier DJs over the years and, as a result, has spun the decks for many a superstar, including one Robin van Persie. It was only right, therefore, that we began a quick Q&A with him at the shoot by asking about that encounter with the former Reds hero…
We were reading before that you have spun the decks for Robin van Persie, what do you remember of that?
“It was the end of the night and all my friends were there like: ‘Oh my god, that’s such and such.’ I was like: ‘Why don’t you just go and talk to him then?’ ‘No, do you understand? That’s Robin van Persie.’ Then he starts walking away and I’m just like: ‘Yo, van Persie!’ And he’s looking like: ‘Who’s got the nerve to call me like that?’ I was like: ‘Can you come here please, my boys want to take a pic with you.’ That was a sick night to be fair.”
You’re a United fan because of your mum, how big of an inspiration is she for you?
“Everything. That’s the answer.”

Being here, representing in the new kit, in Manchester, a city that means so much to you, what does that mean?
“Everything. It means everything, it means a lot. From being a kid, supporting United and now working with United. It’s amazing.”
Can you talk to us a little bit about how your music career began and how you built up the courage to go out there as a young DJ?
“It started at 16, at a club called M-Two. Just seeing a room of people partying was mind-blowing to me. I was like: ‘I gotta get into this.’ And the rest is history.”

Final question, we read you were starstruck once by Serena and Venus Williams - if there are any United players, past and present, that you would be starstruck by, who would it be?
“Rooooneyyyyy. Wayne Rooney. I need to meet Wayne Rooney. Someone needs to make it happen!”
