Gary Neville and his fellow youth-team players at The Cliff training ground in the early 1990s

UTD Unscripted, long reads for Reds

We love a good story at this football club. We have plenty of them, too.

Some of them are already famous, others as yet untold. Now, by speaking to the protagonists involved, we’re telling them in forensic detail in 'UTD Unscripted' - a series of long-read stories from the heart of the club, told exclusively to us.

We’re going in-depth on all manner of topics. You can read all about some of our greatest goals, classic games and most poignant moments, but also learn more about the personalities behind the scenes that make these tales reality.
For starters, we’ve rebranded some of our existing long reads to get 'UTD Unscripted' off and running.
Find out why Gary Neville was forced to lament: “In the dressing room, the three of us are virtually crying in the corner because we'd lost three and a half grand to Torpedo Moscow.”

Take in Sergio Romero’s memories of a teenage Anthony Martial: “The kid was a natural. You’d just be amazed at the things he would do in the training sessions.”

Grow up in communist Bulgaria with Dimitar Berbatov: “I’d wake up at six in the morning and then go to queue for bread with my family.”

UTD Unscripted: How Berbatov signed for the Reds

Fourteen years on from his United debut, read the story of Dimitar's transfer to the Reds, told by the man himself.

Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll share plenty more stories. We’ve got a colossal piece from Darren Fletcher reliving 2005’s thrilling encounter with Arsenal at Highbury, Viv Anderson’s experience of coming up against 15-year-old Ryan Giggs in the youngster’s first senior training session and Zlatan Ibrahimovic explaining how he delivered on all his promises at Old Trafford.

And how about Robin van Persie’s personal memories of that title-winning season… as well as that goal.

There’s plenty more already in the bag, and we’re still adding to our stockpile. So box off some time, get comfy and prepare for some incredible experiences from those who lived them.
