Martinez's FPL price revealed

New Manchester United signing Lisandro Martinez has been priced at £4.5 million for the 2022/23 Fantasy Premier League season.

The Argentinian arrived at United having won Ajax’s Player of the Season award last year, with the defender having proven himself as a pivotal member of the Dutch side’s squad in recent seasons.

Looking ahead to his debut campaign at United, we asked the question: Is Martinez an FPL bargain?

The first thing to look at when it comes to the Reds’ newest addition is his versatility. Martinez has demonstrated a capability to play both in midfield and defence across his career to date.

He is categorised as a defender on FPL, which would appear to be the correct call, but is still capable of playing progressive passes to the forwards.

There is, of course, clean sheet potential that comes with this FPL classification as well. Under Ten Hag’s management, our new South American kept an astonishing 15 clean sheets in 23 starts at centre-back.

For both club and country, Martinez has also been used as the left-sided centre-half in a three-man defence at times, and this flexibility only enhances his value to Ten Hag - and FPL managers too.

As we look forward to Martinez’s competitive debut - which could be the Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Sunday 7 August - you get the sense that, at £4.5 million, the Argentina international could be high on many FPL managers’ shopping lists as they look to utilise their £100 million budget.

But before that fixture, the defender's United bow could come this weekend, as the Reds take on Atletico Madrid in Oslo on Saturday and Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford on Sunday. Both matches are available to watch live on the United App, ManUtd.com and MUTV.
