Jelle ten Rouwelaar has joined Manchester United as first-team goalkeeping coach.

The Dutchman was previously in the same role at Burnley since 2022, working under former manager Vincent Kompany, with whom he previously worked at Anderlecht.

Jelle has also coached for the Dutch Under-20s national team, and at the Eredivisie club where he spent nine years as a goalkeeper, NAC Breda.

Erik ten Hag goes into excellent detail when explaining the appointments of Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy…

He will be straight into action preparing our young goalkeepers Elyh Harrison, Dermot Mee, and Radek Vitek for Monday's pre-season friendly in Trondheim against Rosenborg, which you can watch live on MUTV.

He will then return to Carrington to join Andre Onana, who missed the trip to Norway as he continues to build up to fitness. He will also await the return of our other senior keepers Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir after their duties with England and Turkey, respectively, at the Euros.

“Jelle is experienced with English football and he has some great innovations in goalkeeping, a new approach and it’s very interesting,” said Erik ten Hag.

“I’m convinced he will really help our game, as a team, but especially the keepers, as a squad, as a team, their position in the team and how they’re aligned with the rest of the team and playing as a collective.”

Craig Mawson will work closely with Jelle as assistant first-team goalkeeping coach.

Everyone at Manchester United would like to welcome Jelle to the club.
