Mourinho pleased by 2-0 win at Swansea City
Jose Mourinho was delighted with his players' response after Manchester United progressed to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup with victory at Swansea City on Tuesday night.
The Reds reacted to Saturday's defeat at Huddersfield Town by winning 2-0 courtesy of Jesse Lingard's brace at the Liberty Stadium, maintaining our defence of the trophy. Here is what the boss had to say in his interviews...
TWO-GOAL LINGARD’S CONTRIBUTION
“Jesse played well and played with a lot of freedom. We tried to give him good protection behind with the experience of Ander Herrera and strength of Scott McTominay. We played with two strikers with a lot of enthusiasm and it was a good dynamic. We are trying to defend our cup to the maximum we can and now we go to the quarter-finals. That's it and we are happy.”
"It was solid and professional since the first minute. We had a good attitude. I am pleased with the performance and the result."
"The kids are always the kids. When they play it is nice, when they perform well it is even better. They both had good performances and I would especially say Scott had a big influence on the game in a crucial area. I tried to give Axel good protection. I decided to play with three, because Victor Lindelof did not come to the game with high confidence levels, so I played them both with the experience of Chris Smalling and they were okay."
“We were solid and professional since the first minute. We were always in control of the match. I'm pleased with the performances of the team and individuals.”
HAPPY WITH PLAYERS’ ATTITUDE
"Since the first minute, we felt we were in the game, we had a couple of corners, we were pressing high on the pitch and it was good.”
TOO EASY AT TIMES?
“No, I don’t think so. I think they have a good squad, they have a squad with lots of options. As I was saying before, there is no big difference between the players but we were really comfortable. The attitude was very good. I think [Sergio] Romero and [Chris] Smalling gave us big stability."

“Of course I am still excited as my first game but 2004 was a long time ago. I think I am obviously the same but more mature and with a different way to react to things but I am the same - I want to win and I hate when I lose.”
