Julia Roberts: I'm a true fan of United!

The Pretty Women star appeared on the BBC chat show to promote her new film Leave The World Behind alongside Cher, Tom Hanks and Timothee Chalomet. 

When the latter was discussing his recent time in England to film Wonka and how he became an Anglophile, the conversation turned to Julia and her passion for the mighty Reds. 

“I've been to Old Trafford, I'm a true fan,” said Julia with a broad smile, before pictures of her with Marcus Rashford and Erik ten Hag from Tour 2023 were shown to the audience.  

Asked how she became a United fan, the Notting Hill actress explained: “I have three children and when they were really little and started playing soccer and started watching it on TV. 

“And I didn't ever realise how exciting it was to watch it on television. We just got so into it and somehow Manchester United just became our team, the Moder family team. 

“And we became sort of possessed.”

WHEN JULIA MET ERIK’S REDS

Julia visited Old Trafford in November 2016 to see United against West Ham and she was a special guest at training during our pre-season trips to the States, in 2017 and 2018. She also attended games throughout those tours. 

As recently as July, our Hollywood superfan watched United kick off Tour 2023 with a 2-0 victory over Arsenal at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Speaking to us at that match, Julia said: “We’re so excited. They’re such a part of our family’s history as avid sports lovers and now the kids are all grown up, they were tiny when we first met everybody, so it will be great to see some people that we know and to meet some of the new players.”
