Galton named WSL Player of the Month
Manchester United Women’s winger Leah Galton has won the WSL’s Player of the Month award for January.
Our no.11 scored three times and provided an assist as the Reds registered a perfect month in the competition, with home wins over Birmingham City and Tottenham Hotspur.
Galton saw off competition from fellow nominees Beth Mead (Arsenal), Lucy Quinn (Birmingham City), Georgia Stanway (Manchester City) and Natasha Dowie (Reading), as well as United team-mate Aoife Mannion, to win the award for the second time in her career, following her previous triumph in December 2020.
It also means that a United player has been the recipient of the prize for the second month in a row, after Ella Toone was named December’s winner.
The winger was on hand to set up Katie Zelem’s club Goal-of-the-Month-nominated opener before netting a brace of her own in our 5-0 win over Birmingham City with two instinctive close-range finishes.
She then followed that up just over a week later by completing the scoring in our 3-0 triumph over Spurs, pouncing on a defensive error to cap off another stand-out showing from the left flank.
“I think they [the goals] were all quite similar! I’m just happy to get on the scoresheet and assist for the team," Leah adds.
“Consistency is key at the moment and if we keep playing the way we’re playing, I’m sure results will come so we just have to keep that mentality.”
Galton has also been nominated for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for January and you can vote for her here. Congratulations, Leah!
