Lisandro Martinez joins Manchester United after arguably the best season of his career to date, during which he was voted as Ajax's Player of the Year.

The 24-year-old was named as the winner of the Rinus Michels Award – which is chosen by supporters – in early May, shortly after Ajax had claimed their 36th title.

He follows an illustrious list of former winners that includes Edwin van der Sar, Dennis Bergkamp and Wesley Sneijder.

Martinez played 37 club games across all competitions, including 24 Eredivisie matches and eight Champions League encounters.

The official Ajax website adjudged that he "played a major part in winning [the title]".

Meanwhile, Opta revealed that he completed more passes per 90 minutes than any other player in the Dutch top flight (minimum 10 matches).

And Martinez also ranked highly when it came to aerial duels.

Of all the Eredivisie players to contest more than 100 challenges in the air last season, Martinez boasted the best success rate.

Those encouraging stats, and his huge popularity among Ajax fans, bodes well as he prepares for his first season as Manchester United player.

This weekend's Spanish friendly double-header will be shown live on the United App, MUTV and ManUtd.com.
