Who's in Liverpool's Legends squad?

Thursday 19 May 2022 17:00

Liverpool will bring a squad of 22 ex-players to Old Trafford for Saturday’s Legends of the North clash with their Manchester United peers.

Sir Kenny Dalglish will manage the Merseysiders and there will be some familiar faces in his line-up when the game kicks off at 15:00 BST.

Jamie Carragher is the headline figure, as he looks to resume his personal – albeit friendly – rivalry with fellow Sky Sports pundit and dyed-in-the-wool United fan Gary Neville.

Jerzy Dudek is one of two goalkeepers, and the Pole will be hoping to avoid the mistakes which Diego Forlan capitalised on during a memorable 2-1 victory at Anfield in December 2002.

Steve McManaman was an occasional thorn in our side during the 1990s, prior to his move to Real Madrid, while fellow midfielders Yossi Benayoun and Luis Garcia were canny operators during the Rafael Benitez era, when the Merseysiders won the Champions League and pushed us close in the 2008/09 Premier League title race.

In attack, Dirk Kuyt replicated Dimitar Berbatov’s exploits in 2010/11 by scoring a hat-trick in this fixture and he’ll be looking to make the most of the service provided by the likes of Stewart Downing and Maxi Rodriguez, both of whom are only recently retired.
