Luke Shaw has been named our Player of the Month for August following his excellent start to the season for Manchester United.
The left-back earned the majority of votes cast by fans in a poll on our official website and app to claim his first ever monthly award, ahead of fellow nominees Fred and Paul Pogba.
“Thank you for your support and for voting me as Player of the Month,” said Shaw in a message to fans, which you can watch in full in the video below, which also features his August highlights.
“We’ve got the international break now and when we come back, we can focus on winning games for us and you.”

THE STORY OF SHAW’S AUGUST
Shaw stood out during a difficult period for the team as a whole, with three dynamic displays in which he demonstrated his value in both defence and attack down the left flank, and it was no surprise to see him rewarded with a recall to the England squad.
The 23-year-old netted the maiden senior goal of his career to help the Reds beat Leicester City on the opening day, a strike that has also landed him our Goal of the Month prize (see below).
And though the team lost consecutive games away to Brighton & Hove Albion and at home to Tottenham Hotspur, he continued to work tirelessly for the cause.
Indeed, Jose Mourinho singled his defender out for praise following the latter reversal, in which he won 75 per cent of his duels and arguably did not deserve to be on the losing side.
“I was particularly pleased with him,” the boss said.
“I told him he could not play better than he did, keeping in the game until the last second with that pride, with that dignity that the fans applaud.
“The kid has to know that he has had three very good matches in the Premier League. I am very, very happy with him.”
AWARDS DOUBLE FOR OUR LEFT-BACK
It’s a mark of Shaw’s form and popularity with fans that he has also scooped the first Goal of the Month accolade of the new campaign, for that strike against the Foxes, which can you enjoy again from every angle in the video below.
It topped our poll ahead of two goals scored at Under-18 level – Mason Greenwood’s solo effort against Derby County and Charlie McCann’s cute finish against Stoke City.
“Honestly, I can’t describe it. In front of the Stretford End, it’s the best feeling I’ve had,” Shaw told MUTV after netting the eventual winner against Leicester.
“I’m so proud and happy to be able to help the team. Hopefully I made my family proud too and I can push on forward and get many more and help the team out more.”
