Maguire ends United corner drought

Harry Maguire opened the scoring in the first half against Leeds United at Elland Road, ending Manchester United’s unwanted record of being the only club in the Premier League not to have scored from a corner this season.

The United captain rose highest to direct Luke Shaw’s corner - United’s 140th of the top-flight season - beyond Illan Meslier, sending the Reds’ supporters into raptures.

The goal was also Maguire’s second of the campaign, with the centre-back also scoring in the Champions League against Atalanta at Old Trafford, ghosting in at the far post before firing home.

Harry's header was the first goal that the Reds have scored from a Premier League corner since April 2021, when we overcame Burnley 3-1 in M16.

The joy our skipper felt was clear to see, as he sprinted to the sidelines before sliding on his knees on the wet pitch.

The goal comes days after Ralf Rangnick addressed rumours about Maguire's status as captain.

“Harry is our captain and will stay our captain until the end of the season,” said the German.

Bruno Fernandes added another header in first-half injury-time, to ensure the visitors went into the break at Elland Road two goals to the good.

Two Leeds goals within a minute wiped out that lead, but Fred and Anthony Elanga came off the bench to secure the points. United!
