Canadian pair to soundtrack the derby build-up

Breakthrough R&B duo Majid Jordan have been long-time followers of United from across the Atlantic, and the pair were delighted to be given the opportunity to select a playlist of tracks to be played in advance of this weekend’s Manchester derby at Old Trafford

Singer Majid Al Maskati and producer Jordan Ullman – whose new album Wildest Dreams is out now – met at university in Toronto and are signed to superstar Drake’s label, someone else who has professed his support for United in the past and who made a visit to the Carrington training ground a few years ago.

For Majid, it was a family connection that inspired him to follow United.

“I became a fan through my older cousin who I really looked up to,” he admitted. “He had family that lived near Manchester who introduced him to the team and he gave me my first United shirt when I was a kid. I was obsessed. I grew up playing and we used to watch all the matches at his house while growing up.”

Majid Jordan have selected a song named after one of United's favourite sons.

While they have yet to experience Old Trafford in the flesh – “it’s a rite of passage for fans” – they can often be found cheering on the Reds from Toronto.

“The Premier League is huge in Canada,” said Jordan. “I used to watch all the matches with a big group of friends at a pub called Dog and Bar. They used to open up early just to let us in for the matches, sometimes as early as 6:30 am. After a long night you just have to stay awake to catch those ones!”

For Majid, it’s another early start to follow most games. “I always watch matches with close friends. Starting the day watching United alongside my two friends Omar and Yusup is probably my favourite weekend morning routine.”

If you’re in the ground early enough, you’ll hear this selection of tracks curated by Majid Jordan – if you’re not lucky enough to have a ticket, stream the tracks at home to get into the matchday mood!

The duo have also included reasons why they’ve picked these particular tunes…

1. ZUCIYA – TMXO
2. Getting Late – Tyla, Kooldrink

“The first couple of tunes on here are songs that have a certain rhythm and tempo that make us want to move.”
3. Kilometre – Burna Boy
"We included a song from Burna Boy who’s a massive United fan like us, of course.”
4. Peru – Fireboy DML
“Peru is a song we’ve had on repeat for a while now – it’s an amazing song by Fireboy DML.”
5. Sway (feat. Diddy) – Majid Jordan, Diddy
“Sway is a song we love from our album that we’ve also had on repeat, so it made sense to use it as a follow up.”
6. Stars Align (with Drake) – Majid Jordan, Drake
“Stars Align is dedicated to the moment the stars aligned to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back home to Old Trafford.”
7. Dancing on a Dream (feat. Swae Lee) – Majid Jordan, Swae Lee
“Dancing on a Dream, because it’s a moment we got to work with one of our personal favourite artists, Swae Lee.”
8. Roy Keane - Brame & Hamo
"This is a house tune dedicated to the one and only legendary captain Roy Keane."
9. Ian Pooley “Chord Memory” – Daft Punk Remix
“This Daft Punk remix by Ian Pooley is one we play whenever we DJ, we love it.”
10. I Wanna Thank You – SuSu Bobien
“And finally, I Wanna Thank You is us thanking you for the opportunity to make a playlist for all the fans. We love them all and this great club.”
